Spent part of yesterday playing around. Three 1/4 inch bolts, about 19" of leftover 1 by 3/4 maple, guitar string, rivet shell and a plastic cup.
Twenty minutes later this was born.
Can reverse the resonator, by moving the bridge to the other side, for really personal playing. Next is a piezo on the cup to see what happens then.
Not sure if pix are working but they are on my photos page.
Any comments appreciated.

Yes it is small, but I can carry it in my bike bag if I want to take it somewhere with me.
Minimal rules, for some things, playing one string means you can't hit the wrong one by mistake....
and a 4 x 6 board, 1/2" bolts, fence wire for the string!
world's first sub bass diddley.
Used to communicate with elephants and submarines.

Thanks Wade.
Thinking about scaling it up and seeing what happens then.

cool! The cup really resembles what a speaker does. Nice work.

Tried a clip-on electronic tuner pickup and ran it through a multi effects pedal, all I have available at the moment for amplification. Sounds pretty good by itself and with a bit of reverb. Can make it pretty psychedelic as well with some of the other effects.
I'm kind of impressed that something that cost $0 makes me so excited about music again. I guess it's because it appeals to the tinkerer as well as the wannabe musician in me.
Had a few minutes to spare. The diddley is sitting across my knees and the mic was pointing straight at the end of the cup.
First one is played with a pencil, second plucked with finger. Slide is a long socket.
I'm new at this so don't judge the playing too hard.
FYI - the occasional rumbling noise is the dog snoring in the background.
