Just spotted this video on ukuleleunderground that shows a guy using a veggie peeler to shape CBG necks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwpjJeD4_3M

Looked like it was getting spotty results, but that could have been the person using it. Just demoing that it can remove material instead of trying to get a uniform result.
I used to have a spokeshave, great tool. Now i use my router to start with a 1/2" roundover bit and finish off with rasp file, utility knife blades as scrapers and sandpaper. Take my time to get it right.
The only thing I can think of as a negative for a fruit/vegetable/potato peeler is that it would dull quickly and probably impossible to sharpen. If you use it to take off a little material at a time(thin strips) it may last longer. Hard wood would dull it very quick I think, but Poplar might work out nice.
He said it does ok on soft pine, but very tricky on hardwoods. Thought I'd share, but not sure I'd even try it on red oak. Won't be making any soft pine necks.
Ok, maybe I should have read between the lines on that... I am looking at one of these well... Japanese Shinto Saw Rasp.

That looks like it would take a lot of material off very easy and would be a good tool to have.
I also sometimes use a angle grinder with a sanding disc on it. Have to apply lightly or it will burn the wood and take off more than you want.
Whatever helps you in your time of need.
Agreed.
I am not one to round my necks too much, other than rounding the corners so they are not so sharp... (still going for that stick-in-a-box look), but I have thought to round the neck on some of the nicer builds I am getting into. And wouldn't you know it... I haven't purchased a Spokeshave yet, though have had my eyes on buying one. Looks like I may be headed to Walmart instead of my local Woodcraft or "Big Box" Store. :-)
Thanks for the share!
