there are a million answers to the question what strings do I use and what do I tune them to? I'v been useing strings # 2,3,4 but was wondering if anyone else uses diferent ones, and what to tune them too.

Two common set-ups are:
#5 (.42), #4 (.32), #3 (.25) and
#4, #3, #2 (.16)
I'm currently using GDG tuning, with the 4, 3, 2 strings from a set of D'Addario light 80/20 bronze (they happen to be the cheapest strings my local shop carries, $5.99, made in the USA, and have cool colored ball-ends!)
Even at $6 (you can probably find cheaper) strings are not expensive, so try several brands, types and sizes and experiment. The strings on my first cbg were the old ones off my 6 string when I changed them for new.
Hi again,I have long arms and big hands so I tend to go with 25 1/2" from nut to brige tuned to GDG but its hard to get string # 2 tuned to G (I have broken a few)
I have seen many people using GDG but I guess there are no rules, depends a lot on your scale length too, pretend you take off strings from a regular 6 string neck, you could start with ADE or DEB.
It really depends on the box and the length of the VSL. I did a CGB dulcimer and went through about three sets of different strings to get it right I used the 2, 3, 4 to the best sucess.

Kinda curious about the best options here myself.
