I know that I have asked this before but I cannot find the post....At what height should the strings be at the nut and at the double marker on the neck of a 3 string fretted acoustic guitar? Nut to bridge is 25.5 inches.

Also look up fret leveling, you don't need all that fancy stuff like leveling bars and stuff, just a good flat surface and something to sand down the frets attached to it. Even sandpaper taped to a flat surface like a mirror would do.
Have a look at the things they do on YouTube and improvise.
It will allow you to bring your strings down lower without having random fret buzzing. It's very surprising to be able to see what is going on.
For me... With medium acoustic strings, .08" at the 12th fret, about .01 at the nut. I find that is a good balance for slide and fretted playing. Electric strings are set much lower
Thanks, John.
This is a wishy washy answer but.. Use whatever makes your playing style easier.
Rhythm players often like the strings to sit higher and use heavier strings. Lead players love a really low action with light strings for bending etc.
A typical measurement at the 12th fret for a standard guitar would be about 2-4mm
A measurement at the nut.. Not sure how you could size this.. How about.. The same height at fret 2 when you play fret 1. Or fret 3 when you play fret 2.
Of course, slide players this has to higher all round.
If your cutting a nut.. It's better to be slightly higher than lower or you might have to shim the nut up.
