Sound holes

I have kind of been dragging my feet on my latest three string build. So when I came home tonight I wanted to get it finished up so I put the tuners on and wrapped some strings on only to realize that I completely forgot to cut any sound holes into the body. DUH! It does have a piezo pick up in it and it is expected to be played with an amp so do I have to add holes? It really does not sound very good acoustically at all though.

  • sound holes are over-rated... Artistically they can look great, but they may actually reduce the sound.

  • Masking tape, a brad-point bit, and a light touch should give you a sound hole. Or mark a hole with an awl & use a spade bit to cut the circle almost all the way through, then finish the cut with an x-acto blade. Or you could drill multiple small holes, like 1/4-inch (less tear-out.) If you are really worried about chewing up the lid, you could put one in the side/top (facing the player.) Good luck!

  • no  real  "need"  for  them  , some guits sound better without em.

you could  just  drill  a few  tuner  size  holes  in  it  .. and  top    them off    with   the tuner  furrels  .   an eazy  fix .

    • Wow thats a great looking guitar.  What kind of finish or process did you go through to get the wood that burnt look?  Beautiful!!

  • If you intend playing it plugged in to an amp all the time, i dont honestly see why it needs sound holes.  They really are only there to let the sound out when played acoustically.  Most electric guitars dont have soundholes.

I would just play it as it is mate.  Nice looking guitar by the way.
