My first build - a piezo oil can slide.

Hi, I posted more detail about this with several pics in the Oil Can group, but hope it's okay to double post here in case anyone hasn't looked there and may be inspired!?

It's my first build, I learned heaps and had so much fun. The aim was to get a dirty blues sound even acoustically, and to help that all the inside is metal apart from the piezo wires and a plastic bottle cap. It sounds exactly as I'd hoped. Amped it is awesome, and with drive/overdrive pedals added it's insane.

  • Nice job, clean looking build. I like the peg head design. Does the "bridge" stay in place OK?
    • Thanks for the comments :)

The bridge was okay even with my thrashy strumming. The pressure on those two nuts is fairly intense and anyway y playing isn't yet majorly effected by a slight variation of tuning! Obviously the further back it was the better, and using a thicker 12mm bolt rather than the 10mm helped but then the strings were higher and I think it lost a tiny amount of sound transfer to the body.

I left it like that so my bro could play around with the scale length, though if I were to make one with a real solid bridge I was thinking of a tiny amount of epoxy to form a ridge around the nuts to hold them spot on.
