It strikes me that a useful thread would be examples of things people have done whihc don't work, go wrong or whatever. Well, we're supposed to learn from our mistakes but learning from other people's mistakes is so much better...
Here's my starter:
On my recent (first) build I used pegs to hold the strings at the base of the neck. (nothing odd there)
The pegs were longer than the wood is thick so I decided to cut them down a bit. Guess what? Playing last night, one of the pegs popped out and shot accros the room and now refuses to stay put. The shortness of the peg means that the ball of the string pushes directly up aginst it and pops it out.
If I'd left it longer that ball would be pushing aginst the side of the peg whihc would actually help keep it in place.
So, tomorrow will see me, slightly wiser, purchasing two new pegs...
So who's next?

I made an 'experimental; affair before this and used a hinge to hold the strings, and my Diddley Bow simply has holes drilled through with a bit of tin (cut from the lid of the large beans can I used as a resonator) with a hole drilled in it to retain thestrings. I just fancied the look of pegs on this one... If the worst comes to the worst then I'll use the diddley bow method with peg tops for show.

I learned not to use pegs at all. I learned that building a CBG isnt rocket surgery, and everything is fixable.
