Hi I'm not an expert but I have just built a HCG using a Daimler hubcap, the neck from an old electric guitar, a lid from a wok, a pie tin a piece of old chair and various other guitar electrics, I won't bore you with the details but I have a reasonably complete gallery of its construction on my Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/ScrapyardGuitar along with a video of it in action.
