Fretting for beginners

Hi,

I'm new to CBG making but I have just completed my first fretless project. For my next project I want to build a fretted version using a fingerboard which I'll then glue on to the neck. I'm looking for suggestions regarding the best order of tasks, after cutting the slots, for:

1) fitting the frets

2) mounting the fingerboard

3) prepping and applying finishing coats

I'm going to try Shane's fret masking approach on my next one. I've generally finished after fretting, but it's definitely tedious to get a good result. Not hard, but very time consuming. Wondering about using wide tape to cover the entire fretboard then cutting away the excess as opposed to Shane taping each one individually.
