fret wire and fret saw thickness

just got fret saw and fret wire did some practice cuts and it seems that the cut is to wide for wire, not sure what i have going on? I have C.B.Gitty fret saw and medium/medium wire, Could use some suggestions  Thanks

  • I also got my saw from C.B. Getty. It’s has worked fine. Jim Brown is right, a mitre box is worth getting ! My slots were erratic freehand. If not a mitre box a square block of wood to keep your saw perpendicular. The less your blade is moving side to side the thinner the kerf. Good luck !

  • Check the little pull saw from Harbor Freight. It’s flexy but if you make yourself a purpose built miter box you’ll be in business.
  • Same thing happened to me.  I used a caliper to measure the saw kerf and it was too wide.  I contacted c.b. Gitty and they agreed and sent me a new saw.  It was an improvement but I ended up getting a Japanese fret saw from stewmac. Which was spot on and easier to cut with although more expensive.  Alternately, you can also carefully cement the frets in using CA glue (super glue).
