  • Just thought i would share my experience on this subject. The 1/4" and 5/16" sizes are correct, however after i followed Gitty's instructions for tuner installation i realized that they could use a correction.

I find that if you drill a small pilot hole as your guide and then drill your 5/16" bushing hole first you get a much cleaner hole on the face of your headstock. By doing it their way, the 5/16" bit has no wood to guide it's center spur and tends to walk a bit which tears up the surrounding wood. Now keep in mind i am talking about my experience using a hand drill and not a drill press which i'm sure would be a bit better.

Hope this helps, and if not well i got some typing practice. Cheers!

    • Thanks Mark. Drilling the 5/16" first makes total sense. I most likely would not have thought of it until after the fact myself. I'm shoot to do my first build here in the next week or so.

  • depending  on  what  you  call  "standard "  most  made  in    japan  /  china    ones   nowadays  are   3/8

    • That's the thing about "standards"... There's so many to  choose from!

  • Just double checked....those numbers are right....1/4" all the way thru and then 5/16 on top for the bushing...that is the measurements from Gitty tuner instruction sheet.

  • The ones from Gitty say 1/4 all the way thru and then 5/16 from the top for the grommet I pretty sure.
