  • Off topic... but... That's a very cool headstock!

    • Thanks JD ... this is my first CBG build... I'm a ukulele player!  I made it by gluing pieces of Luaun plywood together.

  • 305978938?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024I`ve been making my carved saddle bone bridges for years now...as far as using deer antler  their o.k not as dense as bone though, and for a great tone thats what you want. I found it`s best to use the antler that comes right off the skull cap for the best sound. The thing with antler is most aren`t solid clean through unlike what bone is.

  • I have used one for the nut and it works really good and looks good at the same time.

  • They work real well!! i have a bunch of Elk horn and it's great!

  • Sorry, no vid yet. I'm one of those technologically challenged old guys but I am hoping to get the vid thing figured out with a little help from Uncle John :-)

This is "Ol JawBone", a 2 string bass I built last year. Has nice tone and resonates well. I'm guessing the antler will work as well, looks cool too ;-)

    • How long should the scale length be for a 2 string short scale bass?

    • Awesome Maddog!  Is there any audio/video of you playing that bass?  I'd love to share it with a friend of mine who plays bass.  Thanks!

  • I have made 3-4 guitars with antler nuts and/or bridges.  Works great and gives it a unique look.  Even hollowed out the underside of an antler bridge and glued a piezo up in it.  Works awesome and is used in a band.
