I am interested in a project of converting an old boom box to an amp. I can see how to easily wire into the volume pot on a twist knob control. How would you do it on a slider?

A slider is just a different representation of a pot. Center wire on a pot is the same as the movable part on a slider, and then you have a terminal at each end. Sometimes the slider is terminated at one end, but you can follow the traces and see that they go to each end.
If you are replacing the slider with a pot you will want to remove the slider from the circuit board. Disconnect it anyway, you dont have to physically remove it if you dont want to.
The slider will have 3 connections, just like a pot.
This is the bottom of a common slide pot. Tab #2 would be the same as the center tab on a rotary pot. Tab #1 and #3 would be the outer tabs on a rotary pot. You can switch #1 and #3 if your rotary turns the wrong way. Simple as that.

Is that understandable?
I think so. So, I don't have to disturb the circuit board, but just attach a wire to the metal brackets which hold the slider?

I don't want to replace it. I want to wire the jack to it. The question is where to put the wires.
