I've got one of those on the bench right now. Maybe a couple cms wider -a churchill box. Sure seems like it should sound pretty good. I'll probably electrify mine w/a rod piezo, or something, but mostly play it as an acoustic. The flat-lidded box is really easy to build with... also nice looking finger joints, etc. While I'm building, I usually take a piece of tracing paper, or wax paper, or parchment and tape it over the lid, especially with boxes like this one, that have a fragile finish. Good luck with your build!
Yep, Them boxes are real nice! Have fun.

Mal, these are great boxes, mostly because they are solid wood, not plywood. I have been very happy with the tone from several different sizes: Toro, Churchill, and Robusto. The tops could benefit from a bit of thinning, but they are good to go as is. Enjoy your build!
Must sound good, I see an awful lot of cigar box guitars made from them on ebay. I have a few and have read several posts that makers prefer the tongue and groove construction of the box.
Mal,
My second guitar was this box. It plays nice. I added a Ted crocker pickup on mine. I accidentally spilled super glue on the finish and had to strip it down and stain it, so be careful. Great box.
