Can't Decide

I'm building my first CBG and I can't decided whether I want to build a 3, 4, or 5 string. I do have experience outside of here (upright bass, electric bass, mandolin, dulcimer, a little bit of guitar and lapsteel). What would you all, in your own opinion, say that the pro's and con's would be for a 3,4, or 5 string CBG?

  • Thanks, Steve and Ted, for your suggestions. I think I will stick to my first plan of making a 3 string. Take care.
  • Since you have dulcimer experience I would start off with a 3 string 23 and a half scale dulci- box strummer tuned to Dad. They are easy to play and would be fun for kids to learn on since it would be your first one. You could learn all the mistakes and should haves and only use 3 tuners and 3 strings. It would also be good experience learning how to install frets. I've built a bunch of them and the 3 stringers are still my favorite to play and build. Good Luck, Steve
