Larrry "The Mole" Taylor of the Legendary Blues Band "Canned Heat" gets second CBG (video link)
Being a CBN member, it was an honor for me to make CBGs for Larry "The Mole" Taylor and Alan "The Blind Owl" Wilson of Canned Heat. Larry has a long list of amazing musical accomplishments besides being the incredible bass player for Canned Heat. A recent project of his is working with Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones to do some music for the new documentary film that Johnny Depp is doing about Keith Richards. Larry is using a 4 string resonator I built him earlier this year to play some smaller gigs.
45 years ago, Alan "The Blind Owl" Wilson, the founder of Canned Heat, said in an interview to Phil Spiro of the Broadside of Boston Magazine, how important it was for the band to get a one string electric. He was familiar with an old Blues player named One String Sam who played a guitar in the same Cigar Box Guitar tradition that the Delta Blues was partially bred on. Alan knew the tradition because he was a blues musicologist. He was also instrumental in re-discovering some of the old blues masters that had gone into obscurity, like Son House and some others. Since Son House hadn't picked up a guitar in 25 years, Alan taught him how to play his own songs again! John Lee Hooker called Alan the best harmonica player ever, but most people are only familiar with Alan's amazing slide guitar sounds and his unique voice in songs like "Goin' Up the Country" and others from Woodstock.
I was very happy to get the commission to build these particular two guitars. Just click on the link at the top that says, Larry "The Mole" Taylor....... to see the full story on video.
Love to hear your feedback.
