Has anybody built a suitcase bass drum?

Hello, I've begun to build a bass drum out of a suitcase that I'll be using in my one-man band schtick and was wondering if anyone else out there has built a similar instrument.

If so, please share any tips or tricks you may have, and I'll gladly share mine as I complete my project.

thanks,

KK

  • This might help. He explains very well his solution to stabilize a suitcase bass drum in his suitcase kit. As well as tips on selecting a good suitcase for the bass drum:

    Hope this helps!

  • I thought about doing the same with the suitcase I use for my harps and my drummers old pedal. I was thinking about putting 2 peizos in it. Let me know how you make out with yours... Thanks.   Dave
  • I think if you attach the bassdrum pedal to the bottom of the suitcase (with some sort of contraption (i like that word!)) it can't fall over.
  • Cool, thanks for the pic, Groovemeister.

I am actually building a suitcase bass drum that you can plug in to a PA system and amplify. I'm using a piezo transducer and a quarter inch jack (of course you could always slip a mic in there).

The trick is to build a brace or "stand" that keeps the suitcase from getting knocked over when you are pounding it (to keep everything in place).

    Please send your ideas.
