I am put off high voltages so like the look of this.
I have had a go at the valvecaster preamp at 9v and 12v using the 3 valves 12AU7, 12AT7,12AX7 valves and using it as a preamp for a solid state amp and it sounds really good. It eats up batteries but I picked up a huge box of 4.5v batteries off eBay so it will take a while to use these up. I tried a really cheap plug adapter and it was dire even with an anti-hum filter circuit.
The links to it are here

david, amp transformer's, the only one's i've bought are old one's off ebay, and the one's in old valve record player's, radiogram's etc, i bought for part's, never bought a new one yet, not that i would'nt if they were cheap enough, i'm still a newbie at this valve stuff, i'm sure someone more knowledgable will chime in about your hum issue, GH
wonder if a car batter charger could be used for the power supply,??
