Whamola, anyone?

Has anyone built or planned to build a Whamola? I know a bass player who has built one, and a while back (a few weeks) emailed him, asking to see some pics... ya know, to get inspiration? Never heard back from him. Then, just the other day, after jamming out of town, I was talking to the bass player, and he showed me his whamola... looked pretty nice! I made some comment about how I would like to make one, and he said something to the effect that there's an unspoken code amongst whamola builders, that you have to make your own. Now, that's fine by me... but the way it was said was pretty cold. Like, he wasn't about to volunteer any knowledge or advice... So I thought I'd ask a friendlier group of homemade instrument makin' folks! Any insight, advice, tips, know-how, pics, etc etc would be greatly appreciated... and if you've never seen one of these crazy instruments, hit up youtube and search "whamola"... it's pretty wild. Kinda like an upright diddley bow with a lever on it.

  • Les Claypool plays a whamola live a lot, there are some pics of his close up I have seen and that's pretty much what I'm using to build my own whamola. Ill probably have much more info for you when I'm done with mine.
