Both knobs crack at slightest touch, checked for grounding and both are. Pickup is grounded to volume pot, volume pot and tone pots grounded together, output jack grounded to bridge, What else can I check? Is it possible to use test leads to eliminate culprit?

  • I don't think this prewired pickup was wired correctly

Can a detailed picture of correct wiring for a pickup, tone pot with capacitor, volume pot and output jack be posted?

I unsoldered all components and will want to start from scratch, thanks

    • Ted over on Handmade Music Clubhouse has a large number of tone/volume wiring diagrams

The link shows a common approach

    • Google?

  • They need to be cleaned, have any electronics cleaner?

    • Thought it may be a wiring problem with ground, I'll try this although both pots were just installed yesterday so it sure about grind buildup yet

      thanks

      • You’d be surprised how much residue from the manufacturing process is left behind? Trust me, this is something that’s quite common?

        • and how much corrosion can build up on the pot's variable resister from just sitting for years....
