There's a secret behind Shane Speal's mangled instruments
In this video lesson, Cigar Box Nation founder, Shane Speal shows his unique "percussive rhythm" of playing, a style of strumming that adds snare and hi-hat sounds with the picking hand.
Speal developed this playing during his one-man-band days when he had to approximate the sounds of drums with his guitar and foot stomper. The direct result was a mixture of Johnny Cash 'paper in the strings' washboard sound and some heavy accents.
Another result was instruments with heavy scratches and scar marks.
The video lesson is part of Speal's Indiegogo campaign to launch the next Shane Speal & the Snakes album. You can support it at CigarBoxGuitar.info
