Hey everyone,

Im using finishing nails as frets or my CBG. I finished my neck with stain and poly. I want to prevent the nails from rusting. Any suggestions? Can I put a coat of poly over the whole neck and frets? I put up some pics of what I did.

  • Evan,

That's exactly how I did the finishing nail frets on my first two builds. Don't bother polycoating them; you're gonna be playing the thing, which will keep them shiny, and will wear off the polycoat, anyway. Commercial frets don't have a coating because they are made of stainless steel.

If one rusts, or gets a dimple from all your string bending, just pull it out and replace it.

    • Thanks. I got worried last night when I was gluing them in.
