HI

I have just finished my first CBG at 63 (just a young lad I know) have made a decent job and its playable, I just need to get better at it.

Next project is an upright BASS 1,2 0r 3 string (what’s your thoughts?)  Any help and advice greatly appreciated.  Are there any drawings/plans about I can use as a starter?

Cheers

Chris

  • Hi Chris and welcome. Nice clean job on your first go, and if it sounds and plays well you have a winner.

The bass, if you are new to Stringed instruments I would suggest a little research on the net.

What size bass? This will determine the scale length and suitable body size (if you wanna be heard.

The number of strings? Well the more strings the stronger the instrument must be. Your choice.

my thought is to get the dimensions of a 1/2 size bass, scale length body size etc, and plan a box as close as, to these dimensions.

You could follow the style of an upright bass, or just put a larger box on a stick CBG style and play it upright instead of in your lap.

thats my two cent worth. Taff

  • Hi Chris, there's a set of plans for a 2x4 Bass build on this site( may be in The Essential Pages at top right of the page). The plans didn't show a floor stand, but there's a couple of build pics by others that show a floor stand. Might be of help or give you an idea.
