So, I had the day off yesterday. I love my days off during the week when I actually get them, but sometimes as the saying goes, idle hands are devils workshop (ie: Craigslist) ;)
Enter the Sunn Alpha 8 powered mixer and a pair of JBL 4682 arrays. What initially caught my attention were the JBL's. The 4682 is a tall, somewhat slender array that is loaded with 4 alnico K-110 10", 8 Ohm drivers and a pair of 075 bullet tweeters, each. Being a DIY speaker builder, the alnico K-110's can make for some interesting mid drivers and the 075's, same. They were actually designed as a guitar driver. At my age, I figured that having 8 of them along with the 4 075's would keep me in 10" drivers for guitar cabs for approx. a lifetime.
The Sunn Alpha 8 was just icing on the cake. It's old but seems to work just fine during the seller provided audition. I wasn't focusing on the Sunn initially but started to see it's potential usefulness for something undetermined as we mic'ed up a few things and let it do it's thing. It's even got a built in reverb for each input if you want it.
Anybody ever use one of these Sunn powered mixers in a recording chain, or did I just purchase a device that will allow me to really annoy my neighbors when or if the need arises ?
