I am building a 4 string cigar box guitar as poster earlier. It is my first build and will be mostly for slide guitar. My plans call for a 1/4" bolt or threaded rod for the nut and bridge. If I use a peizo rod will I have to use a wood bridge with a space carved out for the piezo rod? Im guessing it should be the same height as the bolt bridge?

  • Well, you could try putting the piezo rod directly under your bolt bridge, but unless you have sufficient string pressure for it to really bear down on the bridge without making it roll off the rod, or unless you grind the bolt flat on one side to stop that, then yes, you are probably going to need a slotted bridge / saddle combo, such as Randy Bretz makes:

    • I think I can fabricate a bridge myself..should it be 1/4 inch high also?

      • Depends. If you are fretting the neck, then you may want it a tad lower, maybe 3/16" high. If unfretted, that should be fine for slide.
