Hey all. I have some questions about the bridge and bridge area. I'm working on my first CBG and was looking to find some different way to set the bridge.

I have some Micarta saddles I'll be using. Should I just glue it directly to the box with wood glue? Or should I make a bed for it to rest in and glue that to the box. Would either way work?

Also, for the string holes at the bottom, what should I use to make those? I'm probably going to pick up some bridge pins to keep them in. But what should I use to make the holes?

Thanks all!

Jake, I wouldn't glue the saddle to the box. If it is wide enough let it float, that way you can move it around to address sound quality and intonation. You could put it in a "bed" - It's up to you. Take a look at the photo's on the site - you will see a lot of different ideas. There are no "rules." Regarding the holes for strings - just use a drill large enough that either your strings will go through, or that will fit your pins. I used pins and a combination of drill and dremel with an oval grinder bit to counter sink the pin heads. Hope this helps! Enjoy building, have fun and welcome to the Nation.
It did help thanks much paul.

Regarding strings,,,
Sometimes I use banjo strings but not all the time. When I use guitar strings to use them on a screw I simply take the end of the string , loop it through the eye at the other end and then take the new string loop and hook it on the screw, pull it tight and finish tightening the screw.
That way I can use either kind of string on the same guitar if I need to and it saves SOOO MUCH time saving me from having to change a mount just to use a different type string.
