I am debating where to put the knobs... This one's for ME: I want to play in the house, and a normal CBG is just too loud for the family... So... Solid body it is!

That's actually not a box... It's 2 layers of 1x poplar with a neck-through. I'll be trimming it to the size of the license plate on the table saw... I figured I might have to put felt between the license plate and the wood to avoid buzzing...
Since it's solid, if I want to do it on the top, I'll have to make a plate....
No Felt, you want it to rattle. My LPG has 4 screws through the plate mounting screws to the solid wood underneath. Mounted the control knobs in the corner under the bridge.
I think the placement should feel comfortable to reach and play.
You don't want them obstruct your strumming movement.
I have seen them on the top and bottom sides, too.

on that guitar , i'd put em on the top side of the guitar . avoiding plate squish , grounding, issues etc .. ..
