On the wine box guitar I built a while ago I removed the part of the sides that was protruding over the lid so that the top of the sides and the lid were flush (very easy to do with a little block plain). This left me with a perfect rabbet on three sides of the box....
Thanks BrianQ. Looks to me like you could cut the box down the centre, (you know where I mean) making two boxes. Of course you'll need two of everything else. Let your imagination run wild, cos' you have a spare.

Make that WOODCHUCK brand the headstock end of the through-neck, and you can just slide on that soundboard lid across the tail.
I thought about using one with the lid open a bit to form sound holes, and attaching the strings to the overhang. Never got to it though.

like a wine box, lid slides in & out on a channel
