Hello, I want to build a six string cigar box guitar, I have a spare guitar neck but I would like to try to build one instead. To make one I was thinking about using a one inch thick by three inches wide plank of oak, and a thin strip of oak to fashion a fret board which would be glued on top. Ive used this with a 1x2 to make four string guitars with no problem. My question is whether this would hold under the tension of six steel strings. I also could get a thicker piece of oak and use a router to round the back of the neck. Has anyone done a six string guitar like this? I would appreciate the help!!!

Hi Ryan,
If you check out the Smokehouse guitar group Josh Gayou has a free book to download on how to make a guitar (including a fretted neck). http://www.cigarboxnation.com/group/smokehouseguitars
