As it says, I'm close to finishing my first guitar and installing the pickup is frying my brain.

I had initially bookmarked this link: https://guitarelectronics.com/1-humbucker-1-volume-1-tone/

but the wiring is different to my pickup.

I have a single wire coming out which splits into a white sleeved one and a mesh which I take to be the earth.

Based on the above diagram where do I run the white wire to and the mesh?

Also, how do I attach an earth to my bridge?

many thanks.

  • Hi, if you only have one pickup then you will not have the 3way switch shown in that diagram. Take the centre wire of that switch as your pickup hot wire, and follow the wiring to the pots from there. As you say the braided  wire is the earth and goes to the back of a pot.

What is happening when it is said earthing the bridge, is that we are earthing the strings. So a wire from the back of a pot to either the bridge or a tailpiece will do that. Assuming that you don't have a plastic or bone saddle. If that is the case you will have to run the earth wire to the tail piece.

    • Hi Taffy and thanks for the reply. Understood on the earth for the bridge and the mesh I'm a bit confused as to your reference to a 3-way switch though as I can't see one on that diagram?

      Thanks.

      • Sorry, the wrong diagram came up and I did not notice. Follow the single humbucker diagram but treat the "north" wire as yours and the earth.

        • Thanks much appreciated
