I am thinking I want to try a single coil pickup and a piezo combo on my next build with a way to blend the two but can't find any info on it. I have done a search but come up with "sorry no match" in the search could anyone help me out? I could spend a few hours hooking up wires to find the combo but the blending part might drive me nut trying and buying stuff to make it work. I know someone must have a diagram somewere I just can't seem to find it Help please

  • From what I understand, blending a mag with a piezo is pretty tough. I did a build where a mag went into one end of a 3 way toggle and the piezo went into the other end through a volume knob. I figured I could roll back the volume on the piezo a bit to match my relatively quiet handwound mag pup. The middle position (when they were blended) had a different tone but it was not genuinely the two blending together like it would be with two mag pups. I think Ted Crocker explained that the piezo was acting as a cap when they were both on so it was kind of a tone knob. The important thing is that the sound I was looking for was found in this combination of both on, with the volume (tone?) rolled back to about 8 on the piezo. I'm curious about hooking one up with a blend pot (what a mixer uses as the pan knob I believe). I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Good luck.
  • I just finished a build like this and will share what worked for me with the parts I had on hand....

The switches allow you to select ether pickup or both together, however there is only one master volume knob in this design.
  • Thanx seem to forget about bass wiring diagrams. That looks like it will work so now it time to getter done

Just wire it like 2 pick -ups with 2 volumes. Blend by upping the volume on one and then the other.
It would be wired like a standard Jazz bass, just leave out the tone.
