I came across these simple musical instrument projects at a children's tent at the 2018 Susquehanna Folk Fest last week. The main instrument is a freenote xylophone made from styrofoam cups and wrenches.
What you hear in the video below is a pale comparison to how vibrant these things sound in person. The styrofoam cups act as a resonator for the wrenches and are really LOUD!
NOTE: In the video, I try to recall the physics for mounting xylophone keys. Here's the correct information:
To find the nodes of a xylophone key, measure in 22.5% of the distance from each side.
