Wow...y'all should have been around here the last couple weeks!!!  Recording with Adelphi Records, band reunions, radio interviews and more more more.  Here's the condensed version for ya...

  • After several requests, I've started building my Chugger 2-string cigar box guitars again.  I'm making them with really great Punch boxes (nice and loud!) and a slimmer faster neck.  They're also very affordable at just $60 + shipping. There's five Chuggers ready to ship immediately.  You can see the pictures and even a demo video here.  Shane Speal handmade Chugger guitar.
  • Something a little different:  I'm headlining an underground music show at the New Grounds Roasting Co. in York PA on Feb. 16th.  The show starts at 6pm and one of my favorite acoustic punks, Boots Inners is on the bill, too.  Should be a freaky fun show.
  • I will be doing a concert with blues icon, Rory Block this spring!  I have been invited by the Susquehanna Folk Music Society to bring my acoustic cigar box guitar show and open up the concert in Downtown York, PA.  You can purchase tickets now (trust me, Rory sells out fast).  Shane Speal and Rory Block concert info/tix.
  • A personal thank you goes out to the Greater Washington DC Folklore Society for inviting me to perform at last week's 'MiniFest."  I was able to use that concert as my first recording session for the legendary blues/jazz record label, Adelphi Records.  Look for a cool compilation album sometime in the Fall 2013 followed by my own albums thru them in 2014.
  • Speaking of Washington DC...  I have just been booked for the Washington Folk Festival!!!  The fest runs June 1 - 2 and I will be performing with my reunited "supergroup" project, The Primal Brothers.  This side-project band features a few of us that were part of the original startup of the cigar box guitar movement:  Jim Bunch (washtub bass), One String Willie (cigar box guitar & diddley bow), Ray Nutter (washboard wizardry) and myself on cigar box guitar.
  • Central PA fans:  I will be featured on WITF 89.5 fm radio on February 20th as part of their arts and culture news.  We did a long interview that will be edited down to 4 minutes.  I think it should be online soon, too.  If so, I'll let y'all know.
  • If you subscribe to Vintage Guitar magazine, look for the current "space pulp novel" ads by Musicvox Guitars. I designed 'em!
  • Weekly shows:  I perform every Monday night at The Cove (8pm) and First Capital Dispensing Co. (9:30pm).  Both venues are in York PA.
  • Since a lot of you liked 'em, here's more "gear fiend" links for stuff I use.  Enjoy

I currently have several other handmade cigar box guitars in stock. Three-string electrics are just $95 + shipping. These are my classic 3-string design and all are equipped with internal piezo pickups.  I usually ship the same day or by the next day at the latest.  SHANE SPEAL CIGAR BOX GUITARS.

HERE'S SOMETHING DIFFERENT:  Some famous guitarists get "signature model" guitars named after them.  Me?  I have my own line of tuning pegs!  LOL!  The good folks at CBGitty.com have been working with me to come up with the best cigar box guitar parts around.  After ordering literally hundreds of a certain tuning peg for my cigar box guitars, they contacted me to give my blessing for a special 3 and 4 pack of them.  They're perfect for any builder, experienced or novice.  Shane Speal Tuning Pegs at CBGitty.

For those of you who have seen me in concert, you'll probably remember that huge copper microphone I use to make my voice sound like an old AM radio.  It's called a Copperphone and it's hand-built by Mark Pirro, bass player for Tripping Daisy/The Polyphoic Spree.  He sells them under the name Placid Audio.  You can read more about them (and get one for yourself) at PlacidAudio.com.

My buddies at Musicvox are still turning out the weirdest and freakiest electric guitars ever.  Although they have a website with all their stuff, my secret to you is to go to their eBay page.  Most of their guitars have a 'best offer' button.  He usually goes for a bid that knocks off $100 from the Buy It Now.  Tell him Shane said hi!

Well, that's all I've got for now.  Thanks for paying attention, for listening to the music and spreading the word.  I've got a couple booking agents furiously working on spring and summer concerts in clubs, festivals and even county fairs.  I hope to be bringing my new jug band to all of them.

Stay primal!
