Just finished my reso build using an Old Lowe brass cone.  The only thing I haven't been able to find is whether the biscuit is actually attached/screwed/glued to the cone or not????

It rattles like hell after I strung it!

Thanks!

No, the biscuit is held in place by downward string pressure only.

Then maybe I don't have enough downward pressure. My biscuit buzzes like a big dog!

Maybe you need a slightly taller bridge / saddle combo...

Here`s my new rod piezo biscuit...works great

When i made the acoustic biscuit for the edge pickup...i just drilled a hole in the middle and glued in a dowel rod that goes the the hole in the cone, the saddle covers up the hole.

Hmmm.... that's exactly what I did.  I have a dowel glued to the biscuit (actually it goes all the way through), the brass saddle sits on top of that.  I have no problem making a taller saddle (I am from Texas y'know!) the only thing I'm concerned about is having too much string spacing to be able to try the occasional fretting.

Randy, I noticed that yours has sort of a tapered "socket" that sits on the cone.  My biscuit is just sitting on the pointy point of the cone.  Maybe turn a ring that produces more contact pressure?

Maybe check string gage too, could be just not enough tension.

OK, I am running extra light acoustic strings on it now.  I do have some steel strings I could try but since I have a piezo the bronze strings would work just as well I think.

Yep, medium bronze strings will give it deeper, more growly, tone, and will need higher tension than extra lights. That could very well solve it. That, and play around with tunings. Some boxes like one tuning, some like another.

Yes, I just found out about the tuning issue myself Oily. Have one that wants to be tuned a bit higher. Oily, what angle do you have on your neck? Maybe Gene needs to add some angle so his action doesn't get too high.

The little hole in top of the cone is there so you can bolt the biscuit down.

I usually countersink a bolt under the saddle or cut a little notch in the bottom of the saddle to slip over the bolt head.

Couple things can make it rattle the strings are too slack for that tuning or it just needs to be bolted down.

Bolting it down might fix it in that tuning even if it is too slack.

You can even glue the biscuit if you want.

If you have good string pressure pushing down and it doesn't buzz or rattle you can just let it sit there that's fine too!

Oh yes one more thing if your biscuit is not flat on the bottom it will rattle like crazy. check that too a belt sander will fix that right quick. Hope this helps!

Well, there ya go!  Coming from the maker himself.  That's all I needed, I will check both flatness and will put it back on with a dab of 5 minute epoxy too!  BTW - great work on those cones, very nicely done!

Thanks!

Gene
