I just finished my first build and the GDG strings from CB Gitty have been ordered.
But I have a total newbie question.
When tuning GDG strings on your guitar, do you do anything different for a set strings that are Low G/Middle D/Middle G vs. Low G/Middle D/High G vs. Low G/High D/High G?
Are the two G’s an octave apart regardless of which set I use?

Thanks, guys. I probably should have waited for the GDG strings before I asked the question! I originally bought some GBD strings and promptly popped the light one trying to do a GDG tuning!
Afterward, I did use that great article to settle on what strings I wanted, but that's actually where I got confused...
That is, how is the octave difference between a Low G and Middle G, the same as the octave difference between a Low G and a High G?
Of course, it may all come together for my dense brain once I actually string it up!
all low G strings are tuned to the same pitch. the difference is in the thickness of the string and the tension on the string. there is also a tone difference but not a pitch difference. same for the high G string. the pitch of the high G string should be the same as the low G string when it is fretted at the 12th fret.
Yes, the high string in GDG tuning is always a higher octave. not to confuse you more, but here’s some GDG tuning info with gauges & sound samples, if you haven’t read it already? Don’t forget about the cigarboxguitar.com archives, there’s plenty of information for Beginners as well as novice players? https://www.cigarboxguitar.com/knowledge-base/open-g-gdg-tuning-on-...
Hi, I cant get my head around your explanation, however, if both sets are suggested for G tuning, then I would imagine the only difference would be in the thickness of the gauges. Strings that are tuned lower would normally have a heavier gauge.
I'd say your last line is on the money.
