OI ran in to a problem on a custom order. I received a black cohiba box that looked perfect. While waiting for parts I sprayed the box with acrylic laquer to protect it. After the clear dried there are smudges and finger prints all over it.
what can I do?

Something a lot the members do is wipe the boxes with a semi-damp cloth before anything, those darker colored boxes are notorious for smudge prints? I have lacquered over smudges before, it’s bothersome, but ornamental trinkets can usually cover those spots?
Hi, are the fingerprints on the new lacquer? If so then Brian Qs method is worth a try, or are they on the box paper and were there before you sprayed over them? If the later be careful you don't sand down to the paper and wreck it.
Taff
Sand them out with super extra fine sandpaper & recoat, no worries :)
