Sorry to reply to such an old post but I saw this and was wondering if you tried the maplin pre amp kit out? If so how did it go? And does it need to be powered by a battery?
which kit? do you have a catalogue number/kit number? doing a google search on "maplin pre amp kit" i get a kit code N47fL which looks to be a stereo version of the preamp linked in the OP.. yep the mono version is N46FL..... witch is the linked pre amp.
yes you can power this by battery 9v will do fine. i would get a regular 10K pot to replace the PCB mounted one. that one looks dificult to mount.
