Hello from cool Halifax, Nova Scotia
Building my second guitar but learning to play still number one.
I was wondering if someone can tell me when you install a pickup, I'm installing a 3 pole pickup I bought from CB Gitty (love that site), should it be level with the fret board or frets?
Thanks

if the neck is fretted then hold down the string at the highest fret and then aim for 3/16 " or 5 mm as a rough starting point. if your pickup is low output then raise it a bit and if the out put is too much then lower a bit. mostly it will depend on the strength of the magnets in the pickup .
Thanks will give that a try
Have the polls anywhere between 5 CM or 3/16 of an inch below your stings.
I jammed in a band with a guy who loved his pickups to be as low as he could get them. This way he could turn up his pre amp. He had an all tube Marshall. This allowed him a really smooth sound. The drawback was he lost a lot of the cutting highs out of his sound.
Thanks will give that a try
Like Erasmo says, but if you can raise and lower it, or the poles a little, it will give you a bit of fudge room to get it just right, too high and it can weaken sustain a little, too low and the signal might be a touch weaker, generally not a big deal, but adjustment is useful
Thanks
