Making a solid body four string and want to use two of these. Is it OK to use two from the same set? Or better to use the top or bottom together from two separate sets? Electronics will be two volume, three way switch and output jack.

Thanks!

If you're using the p bass pickups that are a twin pair, each with 4 visible magnets, and set on a bass staggered, or offset, you can use them on 4 string guitars. You can leave them connected, and wire up as is, or you can separate them (requires extending the leads).

It sounds like you want to use a 3 way switch to be able to use the neck pickup alone, or bridge alone, or the two combined. If so, having two volumes is a waste of a pot. Rather, it would be better, imho, to have one volume and one tone, with the 3 way switch...

Like this one here...

Thanks for the reply Scott. Yes the three way will be pickup selection. There will be a wider separation between the two pickups than what you have. The idea of two volumes will allow me more sonic variations when both pickups are active. Honestly never really been a fan of the tone knob.

I see your point regarding tone pots, especially with four stringer that is tuned more in the mid-range, light on treble.

Any way, look forward to see the results of your project. Cheers

Use the two from the same pup cos they're made to noise cancel each other when both are on
Just clip the joining wire and don't flip the phase of either.

I used one of these on a recent build....  I put 1/2" dia 1/16" rare earth magnets on the top, really extended the reach, and seems to work well on my 3 string...
