Hi, I am currently building a banjo using a snare drum, strung as a guitar, but I am not sure whether to use nylon or steel strings. Any advice please?!
Thanks!

Hi Andrew, it depends on the type of music you are intending to play and who with. For instance, if playing with others, say guitars, and playing Blugrass style, I would suggest steel strings, for volume and a traditional sound.
If on the other hand you are just acompianing yourself, eg: clawhammer, frailing style, then maybe nylon may me the better choice.
I have just had an enquiry to build a Minstrel Banjo, they are nylon strung and fretless. Check both styles out, and make your decision. Bluegrass and Clawhammer and Minstel Banjo. Hope this helps, Taff

If you want it to sound like a banjo, then use steel strings?
