One of the earliest documented pieces of cigar box instrument history is an American Civil War sketch of a Union soldier playing a cigar box violin. The artwork was from the official Union artist, Edwin Forbes. Charles Atchison has created a fitting tribute with this period-correct cigar box violin, complete with the Forbes artwork placed on the face. To see the original photo and get more information, check out Atchison's profile page on Cigar Box Nation.
Atchison is also the author of The Folk Instrument Builders Guide, a great how-to book featuring cigar box guitars, wooden tuning peg carvings and many other great topics.
