I was trying to add links and pix of the components that I have so it would help understanding of my original post requesting help on wiring preampI. Maybe this will work

  • Hi, The wiring you are using is based on a telecaster. If you go to page 11 of this pdf you should.be able to work out what each wire is

You can just insert the piezos for the magnetic pickups.

You could just wire the left over half of the rod piezo cable with the mini jack) to the live and ground wires meant for the jack socket. (The live is the wire from the middle lug of the volume pot ie the pot without a capacitor). Plug the mini jack into the preamp and your circuit is complete.

Note the passive tone pot will not work on the piezo tone, you won't really want to use the passive volume as the preamp volume will be used instead and usually if the battery dies you lose the output.

There are ways around this (add a switchable jack socket for passive output) but if you are happy with the above limitations then great - if you want the info on switchable jacks just ask.
    • I did what you said and it works like a charm. I looked at those switchable jacks, The price is $20.00 (round number) which isn't bad but I am doing 6 of these guitars so I won't put the in  there unless I decide to reconfigure later. That will give me a way to go.You have been a great help on this wiring.I thank you very much.

Thanks David. Is this what I am trying to do here? I got your link also. Are you telling me that the volume and tone on the component are useless unless I put a switch to bypass the pre amp if I have battery failure on pre amp?

      • You have a similar version only you have the band selection slide controls on the preamp rather than just a single knob control. You have a very functional wiring system and the preamps can take a magnetic input too should you want to do a piezo/ magnetic pickup mix at a later date (the passive tone would work on the magnetic pickup).
The pot/capacitor type of tone control doesn't work on piezos. Glen Reither came up with an answer here
http://www.cigarboxnation.com/forum/topics/passive-tone-control-for... but on your CBG the preamp can alter the tone so this mod isn't needed.

The volume will work but practically why use the passive volume when the preamp can be used instead?
But if you do add a switchable jack (before the preamp input) then the volume will have a use.

If you like the look of the telecaster control plate just stick with it - all my regular electric guitars have tone controls but I never use them as I prefer to use the amp and the first couple of CBGs had tone pots before I realised they didn't work.
