Sure. You gotta look at that banjo tuning as a series of 3 or 4 stringers, with two or one string dropped out. You can do the lowest 3 strings GDG. Or the middle 3 DGB. Or the highest 3 GBD. You won't get full chords, but an approximation of the banjo tuning can easily be adapted. You should be able to figure out the same notes with those tunings, and slightly different fingering, or convert it to a 4 string tuned either DGBD or GDGB (which I use a lot on my 4 stringer; the finger rolls, frailing, and chording work well on a 4 banger with those tunings). Only thing you lose is the reentrant high G, so most of your notation could remain the same.
