Mini Keg Bass

Hey Folks,

It's been a while, but I've been building. I've got some new territory I'd like to venture into and I have some questions.  A guy I did a build for gave me a mini beer keg.  I was thinking of making it into a bass. Who's the beer keg bass expert, or am I on my own?

Thanks,

JD

  • I posed this querry a while back, I personally contacted the can jo guy himself. If you build fast I am sure he will work with you, I just take to long and have not gotten around to modifying the keg like I want. I did reference the Can Jo group for ideas. But, you might find better ideas in a  broader scope. Happy building.

    Some follow-up to my suggestions:

    Contact Eric at www.knotafish.com

He's actually built stand up, halfscale basses out of 15.5 gal beer kegs.

Interesting! I've got a Paulaner Munchen mini keg that I've been trying to figure out what to do with. Part of me wants to build a tube amp in it, another part wonders how it would sound as a guitar / bass, and perhaps the largest part of me wonders how to get it refilled!;-)

Anyhoo, try the following CBN groups / individuals for advice / suggestions on how you might proceed:

Cigar Box Basses ( I seem to remember seeing a pic of a 5L plastic water bottle bass there)

Can Jo Consortium (what is a mini keg but a scaled-up can?)

    bairfoot cajun

I'd bet bairfoot can get you started, as he seems to be able to make a variety of stringed instruments out of virtually anything.

    Hope this helps,

    Oily
