Metal Cover over pickups

Will the out put of your pickup be affected if you cover it with say a cigerette case lid.I have a neat one I want to use but I don`t know how it will effect the sound from the pickup.Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.Most of this stuff is new to me and it`s been hit and misses but it sure is fun.

    It is said that it does, and usually metal covers on tele neck pups, lipsticks etc are non ferrous. I have made covers for my own pups before from cookie tin bits and the do still work. Why don't you stick the cover on, wire it up and hold it up against another guitar and test it?

    A little y cable with two alligator clips so you can plug a circuit up to an amp is an invaluable little tool ;) (make it by cutting a patch cable in half, get a spare!)

      Thanks for tip. I`ll give it a try.It`s for a Route 66 theme and I sure would like to use it in this build.Again thanks!
