Hi Stan, its unfortunate that the board is fretted first. Burning is the easy option and is acceptable on a CBG. Stickers I think are a bit cheap looking, so my only suggestion would be inlay. Dots would be the easiest as one can drill between the frets.

However care would be needed to ensure that the inlay material does not stand proud of the fingerboard surface as the frets make it more difficult to level flush with the fingerboard. I always sand or file with the grain when levelling, not much room for that between some frets. Or, you could put the markers on the side of the neck and leave the fretboard plain. I hope this gives you food for thought.

Have you thought about drilling holes and filling with contrasting wood filler?

I have also used Round Styrene ABS Rods, I push into the hole and then trim flush with a sharp razor blade.

I use countersinked woodscrews. I always do them after the frets are installed.
