I use a metal slide and I was thinking about using a rare-earth magnet to secure it to the inside of my cigar box.

I am curious if you think that is a bad idea?  Obviously the slide will become slightly magnetic over time and could interfere with metal strings.  Plus not sure if magnets will cause any negative impact to the pickups?

  • depends if the slide is made from a ferous metal. if its brass it wont stick to a magnet..

    • I don't think a glass slide would work with a magnet either, LOL

how about a clothes pin to hold the slide?

  • A magnetized slide would be sticking to your strings and frets (if you have them) and that might be problematic for playing.

If a magnet is close to a pickup, it will interfere with the pickup's magnetic field. That could be a bad thing or a good thing, but most likely a bad thing.
