I’ve made several CBGs, fretless and fretted, although I’ve concentrated my playing education on the fretless as my elderly fingers aren’t as mobile as I would like them to be. However, I’ve begun to use my fretted CBG, it would be a waste not to. Unfortunately when I’m moving my fingers up and down the fretboard I’m getting a raspy noise as I remove my fingers from the strings. I appreciate that this is probably down to technique, but I wonder if the more experienced among you could offer any tips

Thanks Taffy. I think you’re right and it’s a combination of old fingers and inexperience; something I’ll have to work on.
Hi Michael, I wonder if the raspy noise could be due to your elderly fingers, as you put it. If one lifts their finger too slowly off of the fret while it is still vibrating you will experience a rasping sound, especially on the wound strings.
I would suggest lifting your fingers slightly quicker if you can. Let us know how you go.
Cheers Taff
