Latest creation

Here is my latest creation I saw a Russian video on you tube and fancied having a go.

It's a bull dog shovel the handle is shortened and cut away to take the white oak fretboard which is from my stock of cigar box neck material.

Drilling the shovel presented problems as the material is so hard so decided against mounting the volume and jack on the blade and made up the combined pickup volume control and jack mounting using off cuts from the handle.

Sadly only have photos of the finished thing the construction did present some interesting problems, not sure I would like to build another but it has been a good experience, back to the cigar boxes for now.

Hope you like the pics

  • That is quite a creation there. As for drilling tempered steel, I know my arm wouldn't have put up with that. You say that is a 1 off. If you get delusional and try again, you may have luck heating the spot where you want to drill with a torch and ruin the temper in that spot. Just heat and let it cool without quenching it in water or oil. It will also blue the spot and you might come up with a pattern or design with the bluing.Just thinking out loud,I don't see one in the future, you might have the market cornered on that one.

    • Hi that's good advice this time I was trying not to ruin the paint finish on the shovel should I decide to have another go I would probably grind off the paint heat as you describe and repainted after
