Many of you probably already know this but Keith Richards often plays in open G. He removed the bass string and plays with five strings so if you have a 4 string CBG tuned to open G, you are one string away from playing a bunch of Stones songs. In the past couple of weeks I picked up Brown Sugar, Honkey Tonk Woman, and Start Me Up. Just google how to play those songs and you'll come up with videos pretty quickly.

  • I do this too. Then I tune up the low G back to A for A bar chords or to nail all those ZZ Top, CCR and ACDC tunes.

    • Oooo... Interesting. I'll have to check that out. Thanks!

  • I love 4 string CGB tuned GDGB. You get the full open G experience on 4 strings. Also, many RL Burnside tunes work in that tuning. Plus, just don't touch the D and you've got some Seasick Steve going on.
